The Cashew Value Chain will drive development in the cashew subsector through the adoption of the BRAZILIAN JUMBO variety and other improved/clones, better farm management practices as well as increased value addition in the cashew exports.
GOAL OF CASHEW VALUE CHAIN:
The overall goal of the Cashew Transformation aims at promoting policies, human capacity facilities and technology for exploiting huge potentials in Cashew industry. This will among others raise production from 121,000mt in 2012 to 250,000mt in 2018 with yield enhancement from 350kg/ha to 600kg/ha and processing capacity from 5% to 50% in 2018.
1 OBJECTIVES
The main objective of the Cashew Value Chain is to improve the productivity and processing of cashew, create employment opportunities especially youth and women, raising the incomes of operators in the value chain and contribute significantly to the country’s GDP.
The specific objectives are as follows:
- Boost Cashew production across the country through new planting and replanting scheme using improved clonal materials.
- Target an annual production of 250,000mt by 2018 based on additional land size of 100,000ha planted to cashew with yield increase from 450kg-600kg/ha;
- Improve the efficiency of cashew production and promote local processing of cashew nuts across the country.
- Achieve proper processing of cashew pulp and nuts for juice and oil production respectively.
· Achieve higher percentage of processing of national output and enhance higher local consumption (from 5% to 20%) between 2015-2018
· Create additional 50,000 jobs (directly and indirectly) in the sector by supporting investments (factory establishment) within the cashew producing hub.
